This easy, all-in-one homemade biltong recipe results in a delightfully spiced, and oh-so-moreish snack! Biltong is a dried, cured meat that originated in Southern Africa. It can be made from a variety of types of meat such as beef (which is the most common variety you will find in South Africa), as well as game meats such as kudu or ostrich.

Meat Used For Biltong

The word "Biltong" is most likely derived from the Dutch words bil which means "buttock" and tong which means strip. The buttock refers to the "round" cut of beef, which is the cut of beef that, is also known as the "topside" and "silverside".

Ingredients

Vinegar Worcestershire sauce Sugar Flaky Sea Salt Coriander seeds Peppercorns Beef - Round/Topside/Silverside

Step 1

Toast the coriander and peppercorns. Then grind in a mortar and pestle with the sea salt.

Step 2

Combine the vinegar, sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Brush the vinegar mix over the sliced meat.

Step 3

Sprinkle the seasoning over all sides of the meat. Place into a glass dish. Rest in the fridge for 24 hours.

Step 4

Hang in a biltong cabinet for 2 to 7 days.
