Preheat your waffle maker/iron while you put together the batter.
Melt the butter and allow it to cool.
Add the eggs, milk, vanilla and salt to the butter and whisk to combine.
Add in the flour and baking powder to the milk mixture, whisk until just combined.
Pour your batter onto the waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Usually, the waffle is cooked when the steam coming out of the machine begins to slow down quite a bit.
Serve waffles with butter, syrup, whipped cream, chocolate sauce or any topping you can think of.
This batter made about 8 waffles on my waffle iron. But will vary depending on what you have at home.
All temperatures stated are for conventional ovens. Decrease the temperature by 20°C/25°F or gas mark 1 for "fan" or air-fryers.
Notes
That's right - there is no sugar in this recipe. I feel that the toppings added to the waffles add more than enough sugar to life. And, I can always use them with more savoury type toppings. This batter made about 8 waffles on my waffle iron. But will vary depending on what you have at home.I like to double up my batch of waffles, and then store them in the freezer in individual serving sizes. When we are ready to have them, we pop them into the toaster to defrost and heat up. They will keep for 3-4 months.
